There is a lot of news on the next-gen console front, but not everything is encouraging. With games sporting features like ray tracing and 4K graphics, questions were raised about space management on consoles. Xbox seems to have managed this front on an excellent note with a new feature.

Xbox Series X will allow gamers to uninstall parts of games without harming its integrity. This will be an optional feature, a great relief on the space front nonetheless. This will ensure that the 1TB space provided goes a long way.

This news comes after Xbox revealed its storage management plans in September. Both the consoles will come with an expansion slot. The expansion drive has to be bought separately and will set back consumers by $299.

Additionally, the ability to free up space by deleting parts of a game will definitely aid in a more efficient space management. This decision comes with the consideration of how the size of games has increased in recent years.

“Easier for you to manage”- Xbox executive

During a recent Xbox Podcast, Jason Ronald, Xbox director of program management, revealed this excellent feature.

“Even beyond the hardware, we’ve actually made user interface improvements to make it easier for you to manage your storage,” said Ronald on the podcast. “As an example, one of the new features we’re adding is actually for, if a title chooses to support it, the ability to selectively uninstall different components of the game.”

The devs might now choose to look at this specification and make life easier for the players right from the off.

“Let’s say you play a campaign, as an example, and then you want to focus exclusively on multiplayer. If the developers chose to support it, you can actually uninstall the campaign itself, so that you can be more in control of how you’re actually using your storage, so you really get the most benefit out of the available storage that you have.”

Furthermore, Microsoft will work on reducing game sizes in development itself. Xbox Series S, for example, will host games with reduced file size by 30%.
