Stoke City has signed ex-Chelsea and Liverpool defender Glen Johnson, according to sources, with the deal set to go through officially in the next few days. Johnson would become the Potters sixth signing of the summer and would join his new teammates in Singapore for the pre-season.
The 30-year-old was out of contract in the summer after leaving Liverpool to get more game time under his belt and has been linked to a host of European clubs since then. However, with the fullback wanting to stay in the Premier League, Stoke was quick to capitalize on the situation and seem to have their man.

“Glen’s a very experienced player, we obviously feel that the qualities that he has will help us.” he told Sky Sports. “We’re a team that’s trying to progress and you do that by getting good players into your squad and they will help us. Glen has played at a high level for a very long time and we can benefit from that.”

An experienced defender, Johnson has played for many English clubs including West Ham and Chelsea and has won 54 caps for England in the last decade. Stoke is looking to add stability to their squad and build on last season’s 9th place finish in the Premier League.
Stoke City is on their pre-season tour of Singapore and will take part in this year’s Barclay’s Asia Trophy where they will play against Everton on Wednesday.
