A bad day at the office for the new entrant in the top five ATP Rankings, as the Greek lad, Stefanos Tsitsipas experienced the round one defeat at Montreal Open 2019 to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz. The crucial break point conversion by Hurkacz at 4-3 in the third set, infuriated the fourth-seeded player, Tsitsipas due to the absence of Hawkeye review system on Court Number 9.

The down the line forehand passing shot by Hurkacz landed on the tramlines of Tsitsipas’ court while he was net-charging. Failing to the challenge, the World Number five yelled on the chair umpire, “It’s a joke! It’s a Masters 1000 event!” Tsitsipas could covert one out of the ten break points that he faced during the match, that could just aid him to push the encounter to the third set.

Consequently after converting the crucial break chance, World Number 48, Hurkacz eliminated the reigning finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the opening round of Coupe Rogers. With this win, Hurkacz clinched his fourth victory of the year over a top ten player.

Rogers Cup 2018 was the turning moment of the Greek champion’s career. Last year, he defeated four top ten players as a teenager and then made it to finals and landed up losing to Rafael Nadal in the title match. This year, Tsitsipas was projected to meet Rafa in the semifinal.

Along with Tsitsipas, the 12th seed John Isner fell to Cristian Garin in the opening round of Canadian Masters. Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem played tough matches to enter the second of the tournament. Besides them, Daniil Medvedev bageled Kyle Edmund and now eighth-seeded Russian sets up his next match with Cristian Garin in Montreal.
