Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 85 runs in the first of the two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in Pallekele Yesterday. Sri Lanka won the toss and put the visitors into bat who scored a whirlwind 263/3 in 20 overs, with Glenn Maxwell scoring an unbeaten 145. Sri Lanka didn’t look like they were in the game, and finished with 178/9.

263/3  by Australia is the highest score ever in T20Is. They surpassed 260/6 by Sri Lanka against Kenya in Johannesburg in 2007. Earlier, Australia’s highest total in T20Is was 248/6 against England in Southampton in 2013.

263/3  is also the joint highest team total in T20 cricket – Royal Challengers Bangalore made 263/5 against Pune Warriors India in Bangalore in 2013.

145* by Glenn Maxwell is the second-highest individual score in T20Is after 156 by Aaron Finch. It was his maiden century in T20 cricket, going past his previous best of 95 for Kings XI Punjab in 2014.

1 Glenn Maxwell scored a century in his maiden innings as an opener in T20Is and thus became the first player to do so. The previous highest by an Australian was 96 by Damien Martyn against South Africa in Brisbane in the year 2006.

0  Maxwell’s 145*was the Highest Score in T20 Cricket in Srilanka. Dasun Shanaka innings of 131* for Sinhalese Sports Club against Galle Cricket Club in Colombo was the highest before Maxwell’s Innings.

153 Innings Maxwell took to score his maiden century in T20 cricket. Virat Kohli (181 innings) and Andre Russell (180 innings) have taken more innings than him before scoring their maiden 100 in T20s.

58 scored by Dinesh Chandimal is his highest score in T20Is. He has made 58 twice. The previous one came against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2016 in Dhaka.

85 run defeat is the biggest difference of loss for Sri Lanka in T20Is. Their previous highest run loss was by 81 runs against Australia in WT20, 2010 in Bridgetown.
