World No.1 Novak Djokovic ended his title defense at the US Open 2019 after a sore left shoulder forced him to retire from the fourth-round match against Stan Wawrinka at the US Open 2019.
With this victory, Stan Wawrinka reached the 17th Grand Slam quarterfinals of his career. However, the Swiss was not contented with the proposition that Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal final is confirmed at the US Open 2019 with Novak Djokovic knocked out of the race.

Stan Wawrinka hit back at a French journalist, Eric Salliot, who claimed in a tweet that the US Open final is set for Federer and Nadal. “Predictable abandonment. I do know but this event brings us closer to a Fedal no?” Eric Tweeted after the retirement of the world No.1.
The Tweet led to Stan Wawrinka replying, “Cool to know (who is) already (playing) the final! We go home other???” However, after the reply of Wawrinka, the thread was deleted.
The former world No.3 is confident that he knows how to get to his best at the Grand Slam and feels that he can repeat his 2016 run at the US Open when he went onto win the title.
“I have been practicing now for many months. Not just a week ago,” he said after the match.

Wawrinka further added, “Again, I know how I feel in Grand Slam. I know I get to my best level. Sometimes I struggle a little bit in the first few rounds, but if I get the win, if I can pass those matches, I know my confidence gets better. I’m happy with the way I’m playing so far, and hopefully, I can keep going.”
