Stan Wawrinka To Begin Tennis Season 2020 in Doha

World Number 16, Stan Wawrinka will be commencing his tennis season 2020 at Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha. It will be his sixth appearance in the tournament. During the ATP tournament in Doha, the other men of the tour will be engaged in playing the ATP Cup in Australia. With Switzerland withdrawing from the nation-based event of tennis, Wawrinka will be flying to Australia towards the third week of January.

Last year, Wawrinka was a quarterfinalist in Qatar and lost to the seventh seed, Roberto Bautista Agut. In 2005, Wawrinka earned his first main draw spot in Qatar after being successful in the qualifying round. For the first three years of his participation in Qatar, Stan Wawrinka exited from the round one of the tournament.

In 2008, the Swiss tennis ace, Wawrinka reached the finals of Qatar and was defeated by Andy Murray in the title match. The three-time champion, Stan Wawrinka is yet to win his maiden title Qatar.

In 2019, Wawrinka reached two finals on the ATP Tour. He reached the finals in Rotterdam, Netherlands and fell to Gael Monfils in the finals. On the major courts this year, Stan Wawrinka reached the last-eight round at Roland Garros and US Open. However, former World Number three, Wawrinka did not win a ATP title in 2019.

In the second half of the season, Wawrinka arrived in the finals of the European Open in Antwerp Belgium and played a spectacular championship match against the Brit, Andy Murray. Wawrinka narrowly missed the Antwerp title this year, after his 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to loss Murray.

In 2020, after playing in Qatar, Wawrinka decides to skip a few events from the Australian Summer and will be directly playing the Australian Open 2020 in Melbourne. In February, he will play Rotterdam Open and Acapulco tournament in Mexico. In the month of March, he will be occupied with the American Double Sunshine in Indian Wells and Miami.

Stan Wawrinka will be playing all the major events on the European clay-court tour. He will show up in Queens and followed by Wimbledon. All the chief events of the North American hard-court summer are on Wawrinka’s calendar.

Later, he will participate in Sophia Open, European Open, his home country event of Swiss Indoors Basel and finally conclude his season at Rolex Paris Masters.
