The St Lucia Zouks were able to pull off a thrilling victory against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel at the Queen’s Park Oval. Due to rain the game was reduced to 9 overs a side overs.

After winning the toss the Zouks elected to bowl first. Red Steel only managed to score 90/4 off their allotted overs with Jacques Kallis top scoring with 38 runs while Darren Bravo and  Dwayne Bravo made 19 and 14 respectively.

The Zouks went about their run chase with a flurry of boundaries as Johnson Charles the man of the match scored a quick 41 off 23 balls with 3- fours and 3- sixes. He was assisted by their Captain Kevin Pietersen who took over from the injured Darren Sammy. Pietersen scored 11 while Nathan McCullum scored a much needed 10 runs when their team required 23 runs from 10 balls. The final over saw the St. Lucia Zouks requiring 17 from 6 balls and Dwayne Bravo bowling it while a silent crowd watched on with much anticipation of a win. The first ball produced a four for the Zouks while the second a two to bring it down to 11 from 4. Then it was 7 from 3 and the wicket of McCullum brought Ross Taylor needing 7 from 2 balls. A six was hit by Taylor ending the hopes of all Red Steel fans.

An excited Pietersen said he was happy with his team performance as they need the points from this game to secure their chances of making it to the next rounds while a defeated Bravo said he took full responsibility for his team’s loss and it was difficult to grip the damp ball while bowling. He said there should be no excuses and he hoped his team will bounce back in their next game.

This win has moved the Zouks to second place on the table while Red Steel continues to sit at the bottom of the table!
