Sri Lanka Cricket All Set To Name Their Head Coach

Sri Lanka Cricket being on their revival stage expects to make an announcement of their new head coach. Though it is unlikely to happen prior to Sri Lanka’s upcoming tour of India in November. Hence by the end of this year, they might be planning to place the proclamation.

SLC also confirmed that they were in conversations with a couple of coaches about the vacant position. Interim coach Nic Pothas, who has been in charge since the abrupt departure of Graham Ford in June, is also in the running.

Sri Lankan CEO on his views:

“We are discussing with about three or four coaches, including Nic Pothas. We hope to finalize the decision by the end of the year. When it comes to recruiting a new coach, we have to be sure to select the right one, therefore it takes some time. As for the names, some of them are still working in other places so if it gets leaked they won’t be happy. We’ll reveal it when the time is right,” SLC CEO Ashley De Silva said.

It means that Sri Lanka will head into arguably their toughest tour this year without a permanent head coach. De Silva refused to confirm if Pothas would retain his role as interim coach for the tour of India.

Possible Candidates for the Head Coach position-

1.  Nic Pothas (Was the Intern Coach after Graham Ford)
2.  Mahela Jayawardene (Currently he is in the Sports Minister Committee to Solve Sri Lanka cricket problem, therefore, he could possibly take the Head Coach Position since he could have the Sports Ministers support and the Head Coach position has been an issue with foreign coaches not delivering results and not lasting for long)
3.  Dean Jones
4.  Tom Moody
5.  Chandika Hathurusingha

If the Head Coach is announced with a New Supporting stuff on 1st of January 2018 it could be the rebirth of Sri Lanka cricket
