The matches have gotten underway at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the players are still struggling to settle in the conditions. Italian tennis player Fabio Fognini was the latest athlete to have an issue with the unbearable rising temperatures.?
After his opening-round win, Fognini spoke about the weather in the Japanese capital. Although he has played at various hot and humid conditions on Tour over the years, he finds the conditions in Tokyo unbearable. In addition to that, he had an issue with the speed of the ball traveling as well.?
The 34-year-old stated, “I don?t know if this is playing tennis or not. The conditions are far too extreme. I?m completely exhausted. Plus the balls are very fast and fly. I played in difficult situations, for example in Australia, but this is really tough.

“I did 18 minutes of a warm-up this morning and I already had enough. This climate spoils you mentally. Let?s hope it gets a little cooler in the next few days. In any case, I try to take it [in stride] as it is possible this is my last Olympics.”
A few players share similar views as Fabio Fognini
Not long ago, players such as Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev complained about the unfavorable weather conditions in the city. They felt that it would be feasible if the matches could begin a little later than the scheduled time.?

Despite the “too extreme” weather conditions, Fabio won his second-round match against Egor Gerasimov in straight sets, 6-4 7-6(4). The Italian will now face a task as his next opponent is World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev. We wish both players the best of luck in their upcoming contest.?
