Daniil Medvedev is in elite company
Due to his incredible results this season, Medvedev ended the year as the World No. 2 player. In doing so, he became the first player to achieve this record after the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray. Andy Roddick had occupied a place in the top two spots in 2004.
It is evident that the fact does not appear surprising, unless we compare it to this information:
Since 2005, the top two spots have been occupied by what is famously known as the big four. These four superstars have dominated tennis completely over more than a decade. They still continue to compete for the biggest achievements in the sport.
Medvedev is the first player, since Andy Roddick in 2004, to be in the top two spots who is not a member of the Big Four.

Coming to Medvedev, he began the season by reaching the finals at the Australian Open. After that, he had his best run at Roland Garros, where he made it to the quarterfinals. Prior to that, he had never won a main draw match at the venue.

Now that the season is over, we wish him success for the upcoming 2022 season. It will be interesting to see how the World No. 2 player performs in the new year.
