The unfortunate death of George Floyd sparked a wave of protests in the United States and beyond, demanding police reform and racial justice. In light of the sensitive situation, several gaming companies suspended events and also pledged donations. Consequently, Sony postponed its gameplay reveal event for PlayStation 5, initially scheduled for June 4.

They stated it was the right time for “more important voices to be heard”, not for “celebration”. The company acted quickly to its credit, and their gesture showed humanity comes before business. However, yesterday, Sony announced the new date for the event, which will now take place on Thursday, June 11, at 1 pm PT/ 9 pm BST/ 10 pm CEST.

Best way to experience The Future of Gaming PlayStation 5 event

Initially, a Twitter user broke the news after coming across a Twitch advert that apparently leaked the new date for the event. Soon after the advertisement, the PlayStation Twitter handle confirmed the date as June 11 and also shared a link for a blog.

In the blog, Sid Shuman, Senior Director for SIE Content Communications, laid the details for The Future of Gaming event for PS5. He said the pre-taped event will broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second to ease the production process.

This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect,” the senior director wrote.

He also advised wearing headphones as the show will involve “some cool audio work.” Listening through phone or laptop speakers might not amplify the experience.

Fans might get to see more of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and a first look at some other next-gen games. The event will showcase the potential of the next-gen hardware and will span a bit more than an hour. Tune in to Twitch and YouTube to watch the stream on June 11.
