Amidst the current pandemic situation, we had a fair idea of the industries that are likely to thrive economically and maybe even see a spike in sales. Of course, gaming is one such leading industry among them. Sony has seen an upsurge in its sales numbers, even during the pandemic. Following the huge success of The Last of Us 2, this is hardly a surprise. Their sales have crossed the estimates they had for this quarter. With the upcoming PS5, the company should be expecting even larger turnovers, as video games are something holding people at home (in most cases).

Like we said before, TLoU2 was a highlight in Sony’s sales figures this year. With the upcoming console, the company expects huge sales by the end of this year. Although the upcoming State of Play event will not be talking about PS5, Bloomberg reports that the next PS5 announcement is tentatively scheduled to be later this month.
As you might know, Sony will be releasing two variants of the PS5: one with a Blu-Ray disk drive, and an all-digital variant. The company believes that the PS5 will be ready to play as soon as it hits the markets due to its backward compatibility. This means if one cannot afford to buy the PS5 exclusive games after buying the console, they will still be able to enjoy playing their PS4 games on it.
As for the prices, a Macquarie Capital analyst, Damian Thong, says that he expects the standard PS5 price to be $500 and the digital to be $400, as reported by Bloomberg. Furthermore, he adds that there will be a bit of a battle royale for the first batch of the consoles. We believe that having two variants at differing prices might help the affordability factor.
