Sony’s apparently ‘secret’ San Diego studio seems to be working on pre-existing franchises. In fact, from the looks of the former Sony studio head’s LinkedIn profile, the studio is expanding on the company’s existing IPs. Further, his profile reveals that he is working on a AAA action-adventure team.
Michael Mumbauer’s profile reads as follows.
“His latest achievement is having built a brand new, all-star, AAA Action/Adventure development team for Playstation. Based in San Diego and utilizing proprietary engine technology, this team was assembled to expand upon existing franchises and craft all-new stories for the next generation of gamers.”

It is safe to assume that this action-adventure team may have some relation to the Uncharted franchise. However, we must confirm that this is still speculation.

Sony however has not revealed the studio as a first party developer
Sony is yet to reveal this ‘secret’ San Diego studio as a first-party developer. However, we may have gotten a hint of this back in 2018, when Fiona Cherbak, Sony’s former Talent Acquisition Lead, had put out a tweet saying that the Visual Arts department of Sony was looking for a gameplay animator.

According to speculations, Sony is currently working on older franchises, such as Uncharted and a few others. Additionally, the Uncharted movie is also in production, starring Tom Holland.
In fact, it is interesting to note that the San Diego studio is not the only Sony studio working on older franchises. Even the Santa Monica studio is currently working on God of War: Ragnarok. According to plan, the game will release in September 2021.
