Although ‘silly season’ is technically over, with all the 2019 slots filled, the rumour mill never sleeps. According to some sources, Daniel Ricciardo was close to securing a seat at Ferrari. However, it failed to materialise due to complications from both parties.

At one point during the season, Ricciardo’s arrival in Maranello seemed like it was destiny. However, everything came to an abrupt end. Some even claimed that Ricciardo asked for too much money.

The Australian said, “I can not say why. I do not know what you’re talking about. Who said I’d asked for too much money. Evidently someone said no when I arrived, who, I’d like to know, but maybe I have an idea.”

With the season done and dusted, he was asked to clarify what happened with Ferrari. Everything was going swimmingly but talks soon died down.

“Ha ha ha! Good question maybe it’s better if you ask them. I talked and discussed, but you see that they had already made arrangements with Leclerc, so mine fell. Good luck, as far as I’m concerned. I hope to still have some time in F1 and who knows, in the future. There will be opportunities to meet again, but this time it went like this.

The 29-year old does not regret his decision to join Renault from Red Bull at all. In fact, he is relishing the challenge and a new environment.

He said, “It was by far the toughest decision I’ve made in my racing career but in 29 years living on this Earth, it was actually one of the toughest life decisions I’ve made.”

“I felt it was a time now where it was good for me to move on and have a fresh start somewhere else. I think it will be healthy for me – so excited for what lies ahead with Renault.”
