The recent Liverpool vs Manchester United match may have ended in a goalless draw, but it certainly did not lack drama. Following the match, Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk took a dig at the Red Devils. This, however, hasn’t sat well with Manchester United legend Roy Keane.

Van Dijk’s jibe came after a frustrating draw for Liverpool, where he claimed that his team was the superior one and criticized United for not playing to win. Roy Keane, known for his no-nonsense attitude, called out the center-back’s ‘arrogance’.

Following Van Dijk’s comments, Roy Keane sharply criticized the Dutch defender during his appearance on Sky Sports. “A lot of arrogance coming out of him,” the 52-year-old said after the match. He further reminded the 32-year-old that “he is playing for a club that has one title in 30 odd years.”

Roy Keane then gave the Dutch defender a reality check by pointing out, “Man United are in a difficult place. Like Liverpool were in a difficult place for many years.” The former midfielder further added, “So maybe that bit of arrogance backfired on him today.”

In response to Van Dijk’s statement, he added, “He said Man United were buzzing and one team came to play. Yeah, I’ve come to Anfield many times with Manchester United where Liverpool were in a tough place and were happy with a draw.” Undoubtedly, emotions are running deep in the aftermath of the match. Nevertheless, this drama between Roy Keane and Van Dijk isn’t the sole highlight of the event. The match itself proved to be historic.
