Carli Lloyd announced her retirement from USWNT earlier this year. Thus, her remarkable career ends, having led the line for a long time. Likewise, Megan Rapinoe will take a break from the squad to gather her thoughts on her current position. Hence, Morgan spoke about the influence of these colossal leaders in the dressing room.
“Those are huge players. Not only huge players at the moment, like big-time players but actually vocal players. They’re players who lead by example, players who have really taken on this team as who they are and done everything for this team for 10, 15 years.”
“And that’s a huge accomplishment to those players, but it’s also really big shoes to fill,” said Morgan.
The upcoming stars and veterans on the team
In the absence of both the aforementioned players, Morgan will be their most accomplished campaigner from now on. Along with her, head coach Vlatko Andonovski will continue to drive the team from the forefront. Tobin Heath and Christen Press are other leaders who can step up for the national team. Sophia Smith and Mallory Pugh are players that have done well in their clubs, and earned an international call-up from USWNT.
