Despite a thrashing 4-0 victory for Mexico on the 27th of June, there is no doubt that this was another dark day for the international soccer team. Fans began to fight amongst themselves in the NRG stadium as Mexico and Honduras faced off in the Concacaf Gold Cup group stages.
Ugly Brawl Between Fans
While there are reports of multiple brawls breaking out during this group stage match – one particular brawl went viral on Twitter posted by @FightVideosTV. In what appears to be a cellphone footage captured by onlookers, we saw two men fighting against a couple, with the wife desperately trying to get in between them and stop the fighting.

The woman took a couple of hits to the back of her head, as onlookers looked on in shock, or were trying to get away from the fighting. There was little to no support from any security forces or policemen during the brawl, resulting in this minute long video going viral.
Eventually, someone from the crowd, presumably someone from the security force, did attempt to try and pull the fans apart, and was eventually successful in bringing the violence down.
This, however, was not the only fight that happened in the stadium. Other videos have since surfaced where the Mexican fans were seen fighting among themselves.
Brawls all over NRG Stadium
Other videos, especially one where a man was going off on a female Mexican fan is making the rounds on Twitter too. Since then, the man has been reportedly arrested and kept in custody. Another video which surfaced was of multiple fans going off on a single fan, with the person’s partner howling in pain as onlookers were not able to do much other than capture a video.

Despite Mexico sitting on top of the Concacaf Gold Cup group, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this victory is definitely tainted by the events that transpired in the stadium. This is not the first such incident involving the fans, however, as during the recently concluded National League Semifinal – the match between the US and Mexico had to be called off. The US Men’s Soccer team was winning 3-0, and Mexican fans began to yell homophobic slurs. They also reportedly used laser lights to try and blind the United States goal keeper Matt Turner.
