The Premier League was supposed to be the most tightly contested league this season as clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United invested heavily in the transfer market in the summer. Liverpool had their key players coming back, and Premier League champions Manchester City had bought Jack Grealish as well.
However, it has all fallen apart for Manchester United this season as the club try and climb back the ranks to make it to the UEFA Champions League spots. On the other hand, UCL winners Chelsea have struggled with their form after starting brilliantly and are sitting in third place, ten points behind Manchester City.
Only Liverpool have had a genuine chance of catching City as they are sitting nine points behind the blues with a game in hand. However, their fans have routinely complained about the fixtures being too contested since the November winter break.

Chelsea take a dig at their rivals in their match day program
The London club has suffered a lapse in their form as they had only won one of their last seven games before their win over Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel blamed the players mental and physical tiredness for their form, which came as a direct result of their congested fixture list.
Chelsea released a stat in their matchday program for the game against Spurs, revealing how many games they have played since the International break in November. In those 61 days, Chelsea has played 18 games, the most out of all Premier League clubs. Liverpool are second on the list with 16 games played. League leaders City have played 14 games, four less than Chelsea at the same time.
