Zack Steffen has had a torrid time in the Premier League. Being the second choice at Manchester City would seem like a great job for most keepers, but not Steffen. The American shot-stopper made a measly nine appearances in all competitions last season.
The lack of appearances seeped into his form as well, as Steffen was uncharacteristically making more errors than usual. Things weren’t any different for the USMNT as he couldn’t perform at a similar level as he used to do.
With the World Cup in Qatar merely months away, Steffen doesn’t have a lot of time to get his number one spot back in the USMNT. Goalkeepers Matt Turner and Ethan Horvath can overtake him in the race, with young prodigy Gabriel Slonina having a chance to do so as well.
