Chelsea FC is going through an era of transition after club owner Roman Abramovich announced that he’s going to sell the club. The Russian billionaire was the owner of the club for over 20 years and brought the club to this new era of success.
However, he wasn’t the only one who was responsible for the club’s success. Several people in his board have played highly influential roles behind the scenes, but none of them compare to the club’s director, Marina Granovskaia. In fact, her time at the club earned her the name, “The Iron Lady.”

Marina Granovskaia might follow Abramovich out the door
After Abramovich had to leave the club following the ongoing global crisis, there is an air of uncertainty around the club. Several members of the board might leave the club now, as the Roman era has come to an unfortunate end; sadly, Marina Granovskaia could be one of them.
Her time at the club began during the early days of Abramovich’s era, and she oversaw Chelsea’s move to Cobham in 2007, which is doing wonders for the club now. Moreover, she was responsible for Chelsea keeping their star forward, Didier Drogba, in 2010 after his dramatic outburst in the 2009 UCL semi-final.
However, she has brought in an unprecedented amount of money for the club, recouping a mind-boggling 175 million pounds for the likes of Oscar, David Luiz, and Alvaro Morata; players who had struggled at the club. Nevertheless, the biggest deal that she signed off for Chelsea on is still Eden Hazard’s sale to Real Madrid.

The Belgian forward was Chelsea’s best player and only had one year remaining on his contract. However, Granovskaia somehow convinced the Real Madrid faithful to pay 143 million euros for Hazard; an outstanding sum for a player with an expiring contract.

She was finally rewarded for her achievements at the club after winning the “Best Club Director” award in December last year. She was also ranked as the fifth most powerful woman in the world of sports by Forbes, a truly outstanding achievement.

If Chelsea FC do end up losing their director, it’ll be a big loss for the club. Certainly, fans would hope that Marina would stay at the club under the new owners too, but it’s yet to be seen how this situation develops.
