The World Cup in Qatar edges closer every day and the USMNT have a problem to solve. They haven’t found the perfect striker for the team and the goalkeeping spot seems like a spot of bother right now. However, former team legend Clint Dempsey has an idea to fix it all.

Matt Turner and Zack Steffen are the two keepers who are in contention for the number one spot in the USMNT. Turner has earned a move to Arsenal and will move to the club next season. On the other hand, Zack Steffen is the second choice keeper for Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Clint Dempsey wants Matt Turner and Zack Steffen to go out on loan

Both of them will find game time hard to come by next season, as Turner would most likely play back-up to Aaron Ramsdale. However, with the World Cup coming up, getting some game time would be vital.

Dempsey, who is now an analyst for CBS, spoke about Turner’s and Steffen’s future on the network. He revealed that both of them need to play consistently next season to be in form, before the biggest tournament of their lives. He suggested that they need to go out on loan to other clubs to get the minutes.

Whoever is going to win that spot is whoever is going to be playing more consistently. And if you’re not playing consistently for your club, then you need to go on loan and get those minutes, because it’s all about being sharp when that time comes,” he said.

What do the USMNT stars need right now?

Clint Dempsey didn’t stop there, and also spoke about the other players on the team. While players like Weston McKennie and Giovanni Reyna start for their respective clubs, team captain Christian Pulisic has struggled to make it in the Chelsea starting eleven.

Not only the goalies, but I think all the field players, as well, they need to be playing for their club teams come August and try to get in that good run of form because that’s what you’re going to need to go far in that tournament,” Dempsey added.
