The USMNT has had several great players moving to European leagues from the MLS. As more and more Americans make it to the best leagues in the world, the USMNT keeps improving every single day. The next great American star to make the move to Europe could be Gabriel Slonina.

The Chicago Fire FC keeper is still only 18 but has made a great impression during his time in the MLS. He’s regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers on the planet and has already garnered interest from top European clubs like Chelsea.

USMNT goalie Gabriel Slonina is on Madrid’s radar

However, Chelsea aren’t the only ones with an eye on Slonina as Champions League winners Real Madrid are being linked with a move too. According to an exclusive from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Madrid are preparing an opening bid for the Polish-American.

All of this comes merely days after Slonina pledged his future to the USMNT, leaving the Polish national team. The future is going to be very bright for Gabriel Slonina, as a club of Real Madrid’s caliber doesn’t come around often.

Slonina kept nine clean sheets in 25 games for Chicago last season, and if a move to Real Madrid does materialize, he could be loaned back to Chicago for a season or two to develop. Even if Slonina does join Real Madrid now, he would get almost no playing time with the Los Blancos.

Real Madrid and their goalkeeping situation

Madrid’s first-choice keeper is Thibaut Courtois, with Ukrainian keeper Andriy Lunin as his deputy. Courtois recently earned plaudits for his performance against Liverpool in the Champions League final and is one of the best keepers in the world.

On the other hand, Lunin hasn’t shone through at the club, but he is still an exciting young prospect. Still only 23, Lunin has made just 3 appearances for Real Madrid.
