Sergino Dest has had a rough couple of years at FC Barcelona. He joined the club in 2020, and one year later was part of the worst Barcelona team in recent memory. The departure of Lionel Messi had a lot to do with that, but the rest of the team just crumbled under Ronald Koeman.
However, the arrival of Xavi has changed things at the club and Barca look good again. This hasn’t been true for Dest though, as the USMNT star has had good patches of form amongst a largely mediocre season. Still, he does have Xavi’s confidence and the young star can only improve from here.
Unfortunately for him, it might not be at FC Barcelona.

Leeds United, and Manchester United to battle for Sergino Dest?
The Spanish club is struggling with financial issues at the moment. They need to sell some players to be in accordance with the FFP guidelines, and Dest is one of the names on the chopping block. Former Ajax star Frenkie de Jong is another one but the Dutch midfielder will be much harder to let go off given his caliber.
However, Dest, on the other hand, does have several clubs that are interested in signing him. Premier League club Leeds United have been linked with a move for him several times this year and it would make sense considering their manager Jesse Marsch is an American himself.
Now, several claims have been made that FC Barcelona have offered Dest to Manchester United for a move that could amount to $25 million.

Manchester United’s problems at full-back
United have had one of the worst seasons in their recent history and not one outfield player has played up to his standards. Their defenders have shared a lot of blame for their performances and this includes England duo Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Both of them have now lost their places to Alex Telles and Luke Shaw, respectively. Moreover, United have reportedly put Wan-Bissaka up for sale this season, among several other players. Hence, signing Sergino Dest would be a smart move.

Additionally, Dest has played under new manager Erik Ten Hag at Ajax, and the move could turn out to be a good one for all parties involved.
