The USMNT has several great players who are still very young. This generation of footballers has elevated the standard of the game as they come through the academy system of the MLS. The next great young star of the USMNT is Chicago Fire SC goalkeeper, Gabriel Slonina.

The Polish-American has been playing in the MLS since 2021 and has been one of the best keepers in the league at the age of 18. As a result, the clubs in Europe have been interested in signing the young star and bringing him to their own clubs.

Real Madrid and Chelsea were the clubs that were closely linked with Slonina’s signature, but Chelsea has moved ahead in the race. The Blues were very close to agreeing to a deal for the American star.

However, it looks like the move might now break down after the departure of Petr Cech from Chelsea. The legendary goalkeeper was a technical advisor at Chelsea and helped them sign their current number one, Eduoard Mendy.

Cech joined Chelsea as a technical advisor under Roman Abramovich, but everything changed after the Russian billionaire had to sell the club. Todd Boehly is the new owner of the club, and Cech isn’t the only person to leave the Chelsea boardroom.

Amidst all of these changes, Chicago Fire SC is waiting to see if Chelsea still wants to sign their young goalkeeper. According to a report by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea had a verbal agreement of around ?10 million for Slonina’s signature, which would still be valid.

USMNT keepers and their summer transfer window

Slonina isn’t the only keeper whose future is about to change, as several USMNT keepers have been on the move this summer. Zack Steffen is leaving Manchester City to join the Championship club, Middlesbrough.

Moreover, former MLS keeper Matt Turner joined Arsenal from the New England Revolution due to his impressive performances. Former Nottingham Forrest goalkeeper, Ethan Horvath, had to leave the club too after they were promoted to the Premier League. Horvath joined the Championship club, Luton Town, in search of more playing time.
