  • The PSG ultras claim that the French Football Federation opted to host the final in France due to the inability to secure a lucrative bid, implying financial motives behind the decision.
  • The second reason they have given is the exorbitant prices for the match. They feel that high prices contradict the fundamental values of the sport, which should be accessible to fans from all over. The boycott, therefore, stands as a protest against what they perceive as a departure from the essence of the sport.

  • The third reason they have pointed out is they will not be able to chant freely because of stringent security measures. Hence, expressing their dissatisfaction, they have stated that such restrictions make them feel like extras instead of an integral part of the game. The ultras criticizing the federation have said that, without them, they will feel like the match is happening in China, the US, or other countries as they would have wanted.

This not being their first, last season they protested against the club’s decision to buy Stade de France in the suburb of Saint-Denis. The fans also booed Lionel Messi and Neymar for their lack of commitment and attitude last season.

The tournament has been in the thick of the controversy for the past 14 years. In 2009, the federation decided to host the special match in other countries like the USA, China, Saudi Arabia, and others. Since then, the decision has come under fire, especially from ultras.

Star player Kylian Mbappe, who has faced criticism from the ultras in the past, will undoubtedly hope that this boycott does not hinder the squad’s quest for a historic 10th consecutive trophy.
