Chelsea have established themselves as one of the top teams in Europe right now. After capturing the UEFA Champions League trophy under manager Thomas Tuchel, the Blues have only gotten stronger with time.

With a team that was practically unbreakable defensively, Tuchel’s Chelsea showed incredible resolve. But things were very different for the Londoners during the initial part of the 2020-21 season. Managed by club legend Frank Lampard, Chelsea were hopeful that Lampard could build on his excellent first season where he led the team to UCL qualification.

Tuchel feels Chelsea could have given more time to Frank Lampard

The mid-season of sacking of Frank Lampard was a shocker to many. Given how influential the English midfielder was for the club’s successes, Chelsea’s decision seemed ruthless and rather bold.

Even new manager Thomas Tuchel was shocked by the same. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the German manager said how shocked he was that the Blues were okay to parting ways with Lampard and revealed that he felt that the club could have been more patient.

“I actually said to the board in the first phone call. Are you sure? They will not like you and maybe he [Lampard] deserves more time. Lampard embodies everything that Chelsea is. Hard work; aggressive player, big leader, but at the same time a normal guy on the pitch and such a team player. A true, true legend.”

Though Chelsea did take a big gamble, it certainly worked out for the London based club. With an experienced coach like Tuchel, Chelsea were a juggernaut defensively stopping quality opposition with ease.
