The USMNT started their World Cup preparations in style after dispatching Morocco in their international friendly. Forwards Haji Wright, Brenden Aaronson, and Timothy Weah scored the goals as they came out as 3-0 winners in the game.
There were several bright spots for Gregg Berhalter’s men in the match, as the American coach tried several different things and experimented with his squad. Furthermore, Christian Pulisic looked great and got two assists for his troubles in the game.
The team’s defense did not let them down either, as goalkeeper Matt Turner had a great game along with the rest of the back line. The scoreline doesn’t suggest it, but Morocco did manage to get off 20 shots, failing to score from even one of them.

The forwards come alive
In the end, it was the team’s forwards that grabbed the headlines, especially team captain Pulisic. The Chelsea star had a disappointing season in the Premier League, but he hasn’t let that seep into his performances for the national team.
Similarly, the new Leeds United signing Brenden Aaronson was brilliant as he took his goal well and showed everyone what they can expect from him in the Premier League. Timothy Weah scored his goal with a shot from outside the box and linked up well with Pulisic and Aaronson.
However, Jesus Ferreira had a relatively quiet game at striker, and Haji Wright looked much better when he came on. He scored a penalty after coming on in the second half to finish the match.

What’s next for the USMNT
With the first friendly now done and dusted, Berhalter will focus on their next match against Uruguay. It will be a much tougher test with Uruguayan forwards Edinson Cavani and Darwin Nunez set to play.
Moreover, defenders Ronald Araujo and Jose Maria Gimenez would do their best to keep the USMNT’s forwards at bay. Midfielder Fede Valverde had an excellent game in the UCL final with Real Madrid and would try to bring that form for his nation, too.
