Real Madrid have seen a bunch of changes after their 2020-21 season. With head coach Zinedine Zidane leaving the club, the Los Merengues have brought in ex-manager and legendary Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Not only their management has seen a big change, they have also shipped out many key players like club captain Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane to name a few and have signed only David Alaba in the off-season. With the lack of signings, Real are hoping that the Italian boss can bring the best out of the existing side and challenge for the La Liga crown this season.

Vinicius Jr. becomes the top goal scorer for Real Madrid in just 55 minutes
Real were fantastic in the first game of the season as the trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard put on a show. Opting for a proven and old front three, against Levante as well. While Real took the lead in the first 5 minutes of the game, they were absolutely horrendous in the second half as they fell behind to 2-1 deficit.
Ancelotti knew he had to make some changes. Bringing in Brazilian wingers Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. for Bale and Hazard, Ancelotti infused pace to the lineup. Vinicius who scored in the final moments of the first game continued to be a defensive menace for Levante.
In the 73rd the 19-year-old got the perfect opportunity. With Casemiro putting up the perfect through pass, the Brazilian beat his marker with his blistering pace. In a one-on-one, the Brazilian slotted an incredible finish with his left boot.
The 20-year-old was at it again in the 85th minute. With Real Madrid losing the game with a 3-2 scoreline, a goal was necessary to steal a point. The Brazilian came to the rescue as he put up an incredible right footed finish from a very tough angle to secure his brace. Real ultimately drew the game with 3-3 scoreline.
With this brace, the Brazilian now has tied his league goal tally from the last season. He is also Real Madrid’s top goalscorer after two games as and has overtaken captain and talismanic striker Karim Benzema.
What’s more astounding is the fact that Vini Jr. has scored these 3 goals in 2 substitute appearances accounting for a total of only 55 minutes. The 20-year-old is also the top goalscorer in La Liga alongside Atletico’s Angel Correa who is a starter. This is certainly an incredible for the Brazilian and Real will hope that he can carry on this form.
Should Real start Vinicius Jr. instead of Hazard?
With Vinicius putting up such incredible stats in the first two games, one question has emerged, does the Brazilian deserve a starting spot? Although Eden Hazard has looked fit and had a good first game, he flamed out against Levante.
Unable to outpace his marker and combine with Benzema, the Belgian was ineffective. But once Vinicius was on the pitch, Real played pretty direct football. With his pace and his dribbling skills, the Brazilian could also get rid of defenders.
