Manchester United started the season in fine form after their 5-1 drubbing of former rivals Leeds United. Every United played their role in the win, but their two midfielders, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, were vital to the win.

Bruno Fernandes scored a hattrick, and Pogba got four assists. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was pleased with the performance as United youngster Mason Greenwood got on the scoresheet too. It was hard to find any negatives with United’s performance.

However, the fact that this one game overtook Paul Pogba’s tally for assists in the last season was indicative of the improvement in this United side. Pogba’s form has been great ever since he returned from injury, but if he keeps performing at this rate, United will be looking at challenging for the title.

Pogba’s four assists have only been replicated by one other player before this. Tottenham Hotspur talisman, Harry Kane, got four assists in a match last season, and all four goals were scored by his strike partner Son Heung Min. Pogba became the first United player to do so and will look to build on this impressive start.

Manchester United gives positive updates on the Paul Pogba contract extension.

Manchester United has nearly lost Pogba several times since he returned to the club from Juventus back in the summer transfer window of 2016. However, things are different this time around because the French world cup winner has one year remaining on his contract.

United risk losing him for free if they don’t get a contract extension, and that would be a disaster for the club. However, his performance against Leeds only proves his value to the club. They are adamant Paul Pogba will stay at the club and haven’t changed their stance on that.

However, there are several contrasting reports on the subject, and it remains to be seen whether Pogba will decide to stay at United or not.
