Manchester United and Chelsea are on two very different paths right now. The London club won the UEFA Champions League last season and would want to build on that success in the future. However, things are much direr in Manchester.

The Reds recently announced the appointment of Erik Ten Hag as their manager for next season, and have handed him the responsibility to rebuild the club. United will now spend their fifth consecutive trophyless season in the qualms of mediocrity, and fans aren’t happy.

The club have been linked with several players for next season, and there will also be a mass exodus of almost ten players from the club.

Declan Rice moves closer to a move to United or Chelsea

One of the players United have been linked with is West Ham United star Declan Rice. The young central-defensive midfielder would fill the hole in United’s midfield and would be the ideal candidate for the club to build a dynasty.

On the other hand, Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Rice for two years now. Manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly a fan of the 23-year-old Englishman and would want him to cover for Jorginho and Kante.

Fans of both clubs will be glad to hear that Rice has no intentions of staying at West Ham beyond the summer. The England international turned down the club’s third contract offer in the hopes of finding a bigger club in the summer.

How will Manchester United line up with Declan Rice?

The arrival of Declan Rice will help United a lot as the club will most probably lose Paul Pogba next season. The Frenchman’s contract will expire in three months’ time.

In his absence, United might play with a midfield of Rice, Fred, and Bruno Fernandes. Although the club has been linked with a few other midfielders too, Rice and Bruno will almost certainly start every match in Erik Ten Hag’s team.
