Manchester United announced the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo amidst much fanfare as the Portuguese superstar returned to his first club. However, not everyone thinks that the move is a good idea, one of them being Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on an interview that Klopp gave. However, at this time, Ronaldo was linked with Manchester City, and United was still not in the conversation. United swooped in for the Portuguese superstar after City had to pull out of the move.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Man City? I watch that like a football supporter, actually. Let’s see what happens. If other clubs can do things for this, it’s not a business for the future – it is for now and immediately – some clubs work like that,” Klopp said.

While the German coach might think that it’s not business for the future, Ronaldo’s signing would still buoy Manchester United to win some trophies. At 36 years of age, the Portuguese is not the young superstar he once was, but United are in desperate need of winning some trophies.

The Reds haven’t won a trophy in the past four seasons, and after coming close every time, they would challenge for the UEFA Champions League this season. Ronaldo already won the prestigious trophy once for United in 2008. It was also when he won his first Ballon d’Or, and United won their second treble.

How will Manchester United’s attack line up with Cristiano Ronaldo?

After signing Ronaldo, United’s manager will surely play him in the striker position ahead of Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan has been in fine form for the club, but he’s no Ronaldo. English wingers Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford will both line up alongside Ronaldo and compliment his play style.

However, this time around, United have several able replacements for every position. All three of Cavani, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood can play through the middle. Daniel James, Amad Diallo, and Anthony Elanga will also provide sufficient cover for the wingers, while Paul Pogba has primarily featured there this season.
