Liverpool and Manchester United have been fierce rivals in the Premier League for years now. The Merseyside club boasts on its European trophy cabinet, while United fans back themselves because of their domestic domination, but these are the two biggest clubs in England. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo proves that as well.

Ronaldo finally returned to the red side of Manchester after leaving the club for Real Madrid in 2009, and he started in spectacular fashion by scoring two goals in his debut against Newcastle United. Managers in the Premier League will be scared at the prospect of facing him, but Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp was also very surprised.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Klopp talked about Ronaldo’s transfer. When the interviewer asked him if he was happy about Ronaldo’s arrival, the German manager said no because the Portuguese forward was too good.

Am I happy that he’s at United? No, I can’t say that. That won’t be true,” Klopp said.

He was also asked if he was surprised by his departure from Juventus, and Klopp revealed that he doesn’t know much about the inside dealings at the Italian club.

Yes, I was surprised, not about United in the end, but when I first heard the rumors. He wants to leave Juventus; I had no idea. I’m not in the Juventus circle that people inform me from time to time what’s going on there, so I was really surprised about that,” he revealed.

He also alluded to the transfer saga around the Portuguese. Ronaldo was first linked with United’s fierce rivals Manchester City. However, the move broke down, and he finally joined Manchester United after an intervention from legendary United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

At first, it was City, and then I thought ‘, oh that will be fun for United’, then United obviously stepped in for him and did it. All fine, free world, they can do what they want,” he concluded.
