Peter Crouch is one of the most underrated legends in the Premier League as the Englishman enjoyed a long 20-year-old long career in England. However, his peak definitely came in 2005 when he got his dream move to Premier League club Liverpool.

He stayed in Liverpool for three years and saw the highest of highs at the club, winning several trophies, and playing in the UEFA Champions League final in 2007. However, he never really won a major trophy at the club, and his 22 goals at the club remain just a stat.

Peter Crouch crashes into Dirk Kuyt in 2007

He is celebrating his 41st birthday today and the 6’7″ tall Englishman has always been a sensation in the media. He has been known for his funny tweets and stories about his career. One of these stories actually occurred during Crouch’s time at Liverpool.

He talked about an incident before the UCL final in 2007 when he went go-karting with Xabi Alonso and Dirk Kuyt. Crouch revealed that the brakes on his go-kart were loose and that he had to choose one of Alonso or Kuyt to crash into.

Before the Champions League final in 2007 we went go-karting. Mid-race I realised that my brakes were loose. I saw Xabi Alonso and Dirk Kuyt in front of me and I asked myself the question; ‘Who is the more important of the two?’ So I drove into Kuyt,” Crouch laughed.

Crouch’s long career by the numbers

Making his debut with Tottenham Hotspur in 1998, Crouch finally retired from professional football in 2019 after playing six games for Burnley. He played for 12 clubs in his career, but he spent most of his time with Stoke City, playing over 200 games for the club.

He scored 46 goals for the club in the eight years that he spent there. In the end, he played 599 games in his professional club career and scored 145 goals, a respectable tally by all means.
