Losing your biggest superstar can be tough on teams that depend heavily on them, and when that superstar is one of the greatest players in the history of the game, things get infinitely harder. FC Barcelona learned this the hard way when Lionel Messi left the team this summer on a free transfer.
The financial complications caused by his transfer were overshadowed by the fact that Barca aren’t performing well at all. They have struggled in all competitions this season and are out of the running in the Copa Del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, dropping down into the Europa League for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
Their position in the La Liga table is not much better either, as they are sitting in fifth place, fifteen points behind league leaders Real Madrid (albeit having played a game less). Moreover, they also lost to them in the Spanish Supercup, a trophy the Los Blancos eventually won.

Messi appears in Barcelona again
During times of turmoil, Barcelona fans are struggling a lot, and the one shining light that they can see is the return of Lionel Messi. The Argentinian hasn’t had the best time with Paris Saint Germain as he has struggled to perform in Ligue 1. A transfer back to FC Barcelona will be one of the biggest deals the club could possibly pull off.
These rumours were accelerated by the fact that Messi was pictured in the city of Barcelona again. Furthermore, he was pictured dining with his former FC Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Xavi. Xavi is currently the manager of FC Barcelona and is trying to correct the course of their season.
