The Ballon d’Or is the highest honour a player could win for an individual season in football. Only the best players on the planet are able to win one of these awards. However, Paris Saint Germain forward Lionel Messi has a mind-blowing 7.

The Argentinian forward has etched his name as one of the best football players of all time. His dominance of the sport was reiterated when he won the trophy again last year. However, his form has since taken a nosedive, and Messi is not in contention to win the prestigious award this year.

Lionel Messi has his ideas

On the contrary, players like Mohamed Salah, Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, and Robert Lewandowski could all win it this year. However, after the performances of a certain Frenchman for his club, the race becomes more or less obsolete.

Messi spoke about this edition of the Ballon d’Or and said that there was no doubt in his mind that Benzema was winning it. He brought up Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph and Benzema’s role in that team to support his statement.

Benzema winning the Ballon d’Or? For me there’s no doubt. It’s very clear that Benzema had a spectacular year and ended up capping it off with the Champions League, being crucial from the Round of 16 onward in all matches. I think there is no doubt this year,” Messi said.
