While the Argentine had to move away from his boyhood club FC Barcelona, Ronaldo was in a dire need of some change in scenery and angled a move away from Juventus. Joining French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United respectively, these moves sent shock waves all around the globe.

Messi and Ronaldo are two of the biggest names in the footballing world. Given their incredible performances on the pitch and their activity off it, both CR7 and Messi have an enormous number of followers on social media.
While these superstars may cost a fortune in wages, they bring in multiple fans and followers with them. This is pretty much visible in the spike in numbers the clubs have seen ever since the moves from LM10 and CR7.
While Ronaldo’s incredible transfer took majority of the headlines, Messi’s transfer made much more of an impact on the team since his transfer. Ever since his move to the Parisians, the French giants have had a massive boost to their social media.
The day Messi’s arrival was confirmed, PSG gained 3.4 million followers in that day itself. These insane numbers continued for the first week as well as PSG gained around 8.8 million followers in the first week itself.
Ronaldo meanwhile also had an incredible effect on the team. After the confirmation of CR7’s arrival, United gained 2.4 million followers in the first two days. The club also added more than 4.08 million followers.

While CR7 has the most following in social media, this certainly speaks volumes about the shock-waves Messi’s departure from Barca created and how this move swayed away multiple followers.

Both the superstars embark on a new journey this season. PSG will hope that Messi is the missing piece they need to win the Champions League.
