Chelsea is doing everything they can to build on their UEFA Champions League win last season. They have a squad that is good enough to win the premier league on paper, but their striker, Timo Werner, is a glaring weakness. Hence, they tried to sign their former player Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku has been Inter Milan’s best player under Antonio Conte and helped the club win its first Serie A title after ten years. His goals and assists were vital as the Italian club broke Juventus’s stronghold on the league. However, Milan has been struggling with financial problems this season.
They have already sold their starting right-back Achraf Hakimi to PSG, with Lautaro Martinez soon to follow. Nevertheless, selling Romelu Lukaku is not in their plans. Chelsea made a bid of €100m, including Marcos Alonso, according to Fabrizio Romano, but Inter rejected the bid.

The Inter board turned Chelsea’s bid down as they consider Lukaku to be untouchable and want to keep him. It’s a show of ambition from the club even after their financial issues. On the other hand, Chelsea is back to square one and has been thwarted by two different clubs now.
Chelsea also tried to sign Norwegian wunderkind Erling Haaland after Dortmund refused to let their player go for less than €175m. It’s a lot of money for a player, but Haaland will definitely be worth it. The London club might yet be close to Haaland’s signing, but as of right now, nothing is clear at the Bridge.

Romelu Lukaku and his incredible form for club and country
The 28-year-old has turned the Italian top-flight upside down with his displays for Inter Milan. After joining the club from Manchester United via a big-money move, Lukaku has more than delivered on his transfer value. Lukaku’s 24 league goals and 11 assists were second only to Juventus’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
He put in some amazing performances for his country too. He scored a lot of vital goals for Belgium in the Euros 2021 and ended his tournament with four goals. His form justifies the amount of money Inter might demand for him as the forward has just entered the prime of his career.
