DM’ing your favourite celebrity might actually be a good idea if the person is someone like Ronaldinho. The Brazilian football icon has always been popular with fans, and his incredible legend grows with the story of Kerry’s Paul Walsh.

Walsh is a U-20 football player for Kerry and accomplished his dream of meeting Ronaldinho in Brazil. He spoke to OTB AM and revealed how it all happened.

His brother, who is his agent, Assis [Roberto de Assis Moreira] for some reason more than a year ago made a new Instagram account,” Walsh said.

Assis had very few followers at the time, and Walsh sent him a follow request which got accepted. It was a matter of waiting from there as Walsh sent him messages that were translated by Google Translate.

I explained to him that [Ronaldinho] is my idol, and I asked if there was any chance that I could meet him somewhere for a photo anytime. Some time passed by after that message, so I thought, ‘no, he isn’t going to reply. I didn’t expect anything anyway. One morning I woke up, and I saw there was a very short message from Assis; he just said, ‘no problem’,” Walsh revealed.

Walsh and Assis talked for over a year but never made any concrete plans until recently. Even then, Walsh had to wait outside Ronaldinho’s gated community for hours before a security guard drove him in. Walsh had a few beers with the Brazilian great’s friends for a few hours before Ronaldinho finally met him.

He came down the stairs. He came over and gave me a hug. I told him that I was going to bring him the jersey, so I presented him that, and then we sat around for a while, had a few beers and played a bit of foot volley and stuff. It was an absolute dream come true! He was genuinely the nicest person you could ever meet,” Walsh stated.
