With Barcelona in tatters for the past few seasons, fans have turned to a familiar face, looking for help. After sacking club icon Ronald Koeman due to poor performances, former legendary midfielder Xavi returns to Camp Nou, this time as the club’s new manager.

With new rules and regulations in place, Xavi intends to create discipline at the club. However, starting off on the wrong foot with Xavi, Ousmane Dembele became the first player to break his rules.

Dembele late for training

The first rule set for players was to not come late for training. However, as Dembele arrived at the training ground, he was late by a whole 3 minutes. Hence, getting his blueprints in place, Xavi fined the 24-year-old, sending a warning statement to the rest of the squad.

Setting the rules in place, he hopes to get a hold of the dressing room and instill discipline in his team. This obviously may be the right approach, as the squad in recent times has lacked the personality Camp Nou players are famous for.

The code of conduct present in the famous simulation game Football Manager comes to reality as Xavi doubles the fines for offenses made for the second time. Moreover, there are reports that Xavi is the first manager to adopt this since Luis Enrique did in 2017.

This came right after the new manager spoke highly of Dembele, wanting him to extend his contract with the club.

Gone are those days when Ousmane Dembele was a young potential-laden talent. It’s been four years since he entered the club after leaving Borussia Dortmund. Safe to say, the form shown in those four years has been sketchy, given his injury troubles. Nevertheless, Xavi praised Dembele when he joined the club, wanting an extension of his contract.

“Extending Ousmane Dembele’s contract is one of our priorities, yes. He could be the best player in the world in his position. Ousmane has to work a lot, he has the potential to make the difference at Barça as a world top player. But he needs to be consistent,” said Xavi.

Safe to say, Xavi’s would be important to bring the club back from their recent slump. What are your thoughts about his methods?
