Lionel Messi is one of the greatest football players of all time, and he is certainly one of the best players active right now. He proved that by winning his seventh Ballon d’Or this season, beating several superstars to the title. However, Borussia Dortmund youngster, Erling Haaland, doesn’t think that he’s the best anymore.
The 21-year-old striker is among the best players on the planet himself and has been a sensation in the world of football. Haaland has a rivalry with Paris Saint Germain forward and Messi’s teammate Kylian Mbappe to see who the best young player in the world is.

Erling Haaland and his opinion about the best players in the world
Haaland was asked in an interview about who he thought was the best player on the planet currently, and his answer surprised a lot of people. The young forward mentioned his Bayern Munich rival Robert Lewandowski, adding Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and Messi in his top three.
“Lewandowski number one, Benzema and Messi are joint second,” Haaland answered. While it is a decent opinion, Haaland didn’t mention Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who has been outstanding for Liverpool this season, keeping them in second place in the Premier League and helping them reach the knockout stages of the UCL.
Meanwhile, Messi’s inclusion surprised a lot of people, as the Argentinian forward isn’t having the best season at PSG. He has only scored one league goal in 12 games in Ligue 1 and has added just four assists to his tally. On the other hand, Salah’s numbers (16 goals and 9 assists in 20 Premier League matches) dwarf Messi’s by a mile.
