Football has largely been a sport with very few tragic incidents associated with it, especially on the pitch. Hence, when a popular footballer like Christian Eriksen goes down on the pitch on one of the biggest stages in the world of football, the entire world took notice.

Eriksen collapsed on the pitch in Denmark’s Euros 2020 match against Finland and it was later revealed that the Dane suffered a Cardiac Arrest. At his age, the issue was highly problematic and as a result, he has an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) fitted to his heart.

His contract with Serie A club Inter Milan was terminated, as playing a professional sport in Italy with an ICD is illegal. Eriksen is now a free agent, and he is in talks to see a return to the Premier League.

Eriksen is close to joining Premier League side Brentford

Christian Eriksen hasn’t played professional football in seven months and will be itching to return to the sport he loves the most. The midfielder has been linked to a move to newly promoted PL side Brentford, who have reportedly agreed on a six-month contract with the Danish captain.

There is an option to extend his contract by 12 more months if he performs well, but all of that will be moot if he doesn’t get the clearance to play. Eriksen needs to pass his medical and will be needed to be signed off by a club-assigned sports cardiologist before being registered to play for Brentford.

According to Paul Gilmour from Sky Sports, Eriksen has been training alone in Switzerland and is ready to play again. He’ll earn a good salary, but Brentford isn’t breaking their wage structure to sign him.
