Being the best football player in the world comes with several caveats. People look up to you all the time, and there’s a sense of reverence around the player, which never really goes away. The same thing is happening to Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.

The Portuguese forward re-joined his boyhood club after leaving United in 2009. Several things have changed at United since then, and the downfall of one of the greatest clubs in the world is very visible. Ronaldo has struggled to keep his numbers up at the club, but he has still been United’s top scorer this season.

However, those who are playing around him haven’t lived up to the same standards.

Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford are annoyed at Ronaldo for trying to lead the team

United have struggled massively this season, especially in the Premier League. They sacked their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the middle of the season when the club was languishing in eighth place. Since then, the club has appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager and are now in fourth place.

However, football journalist Christian Falk has reported that there is trouble in paradise. United’s English contingent, club captain Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, and a few others aren’t happy with the fact that Ronaldo is trying to lead the dressing room.

Falk speculated that there might be a division in the Manchester United dressing room. However, United fans were quick to dispute the news in the replies.

Cristiano Ronaldo and his stats for United

While the noise surrounding the squad has been louder than ever, Ronaldo seems to be unaffected by it all. His output has dropped considerably in the Premier League as the forward has only scored nine goals in 21 appearances, adding three assists. Still, he has been the club’s top scorer in the league.

Moreover, it’s his performances in the UEFA Champions League that have proven his worth. The Portuguese forward has scored six goals in five matches in the group stages, helping United make it into the Round of-16. It’ll be interesting to see if he can take them forward again.
