This transfer season has seen some of the biggest moves in club football. Be it the shocking departure of Lionel Messi for Paris Saint-Germain or European champions Chelsea splashing the cash for Romelu Lukaku, clubs have been making big moves ahead of the 2021-22 season.
These two moves have certainly certainly rocked the footballing world. Given how pivotal they were to their respective teams’ success, Lukaku and Messi moving away from Barca and Inter respectively seemed highly unlikely.
While Messi moved away from his boyhood club, Lukaku, who had an earlier stint at Chelsea, returned to Stamford Bridge. The Belgian has solidified his status as one of the top strikers in club football. Be it him scoring or assisting, Lukaku’s numbers speak for themselves.

Tuchel expecting Romelu Lukaku to topple Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal tally this season
Chelsea were one of the most solid teams defensively last season. While they were stout defensively, ‘the Blues’ felt the lack of a proven goal-scorer. The German duo Kai Havertz and Timo Werner took their time to adjust to the Premier League and thus weren’t prolific in their first season.
Werner especially struggled in front of the goal and missed multiple sitters. With the signing of Romelu Lukaku, Tuchel will hope that his team can be better offensively.

In a recent press conference, the German coach spoke about how many goals he wants the Belgian to score. Tuchel joked around and said, “50-60 honestly until winter, normally until winter.”
While the 44-year-old was joking, Chelsea seriously will hope that a signing like Lukaku delivers. Breaking their club record with a ?100 million fee in transfer fees, ‘the Blues’ were willing to take a risk on a big money signing.

But the risk might be worth it. The Belgian is coming off of one of his best seasons of his career as he scored a combined total of 41 goals in all competitions. Only the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Erling Braut Haaland only topped his tally.
Given the flurry of chances the Belgian striker will get in a club like Chelsea these numbers will probably shoot up. With his incredible form, the 6’3″ striker is one of the favorites to win the Golden boot. Don’t be surprised if Lukaku topples Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in terms of total goals.
