Aston Villa’s main man and captain Jack Grealish is closer to leaving the club than ever before. He is going to move to Manchester in a big-money move which will see the Premier League champions pay a transfer fee of £100m.

This will shatter the record for the most expensive signing in Premier League history, and Aston Villa fans aren’t taking to it very kindly. Grealish signed a 5-year deal with Villa last season, but City’s offer was enough to convince the England star.

City will offer Grealish higher wages and are planning to give him a five-year contract. Villa too was willing to offer their star a better deal, but Grealish had made up his mind by then. Both David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano broke the news of his departure, and it caused a lot of ruckus among the Aston Villa faithful and some others.

Aston Villa was planning to challenge for Europe with Jack Grealish.

This will surely throw a spanner in Aston Villa’s plans as the club was making some huge moves in the transfer market before Grealish’s departure. Villa signed Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey in a £30m move. The club had previously re-signed their former winger and current right-back Ashley Young from Inter Milan.

In addition, they were also linked with moves for Manchester United’s promising center-back Axel Tuanzebe and Southampton’s star James Ward-Prowse. Those moves will almost certainly happen now as Villa will look to reinvest the money they make from Grealish’s sale into the squad.

Dean Smith will have a lot of money at his disposal, and while Villa were genuine contenders for the top 6 with Jack Grealish, they can still reach there if they reinvest money wisely. However, it’ll be interesting to see where the club does end up finishing next season. On the other hand, City will not take anything other than first place as they won the league last season as well.
