The result surprised most people as Hamilton had won the last four Formula One Driver championships and was tied on points with Verstappen going into the last race. The drama reached its peak when Verstappen pulled off that last lap overtake to win it all. Hamilton finished second, while Carlos Sainz came third.
A mind-blowing end to one of the best seasons of Formula One.
Hamilton has seven championships to his name, and an eight-win would have made him the driver with the most championships, going past the legendary Michael Schumacher’s record of seven wins.
Meanwhile, Verstappen was ecstatic after his win and radioed to his team, talking about starting a legacy.
“This is unbelievable guys! Can we do this for another 10-15 years together,” Verstappen said.
Verstappen is still only 24 and has a lot of years left at the top level of racing. It’ll be interesting to see what he can pull off next season with Lewis Hamilton looking to regain his championship.
