FC Barcelona garnered a lot of concern after the sacking of their manager, Ronald Koeman. The two managers before him were fired after disastrous campaigns, and Koeman’s tenure was no different. Moreover, this time, they had lost Lionel Messi too.
Messi left FC Barcelona after his contract expired. However, a new contract was agreed upon, but Barca were unable to sign him because of La Liga regulations. Post his departure, the club had a horrible start to the season under Ronald Koeman. As a result, the club sacked him and signed their former player, legendary Spanish midfielder, Xavi.

Lionel Messi talks about Xavi’s appointment at FC Barcelona
Recently, Messi spoke about his former teammate’s appointment in an interview for Marca. He showed what hopes he had for Xavi and was optimistic about his performance.
“I’m sure Xavi will help Barcelona. They’ll improve thanks to him – he’s a manager who knows how to proceed in these situations, he knows Barça so well. It’s a great appointment,” he said.
Messi, too, was having a horrible start to life at Paris Saint Germain, having only recently scored his first league goal last week. However, things were different on the grand stage as Messi came up big to save Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League.

FC Barcelona’s terrible form at the start of the season
Barcelona are currently sitting in seventh place in the La Liga table and were as low as 9th before winning their last game. That game was Xavi’s first in charge, and a Memphis Depay penalty was enough for a 1-0 win over local rivals Espanyol.
Things were very different under Koeman, and it looked like the club had no hope. However, now there’s an era of nostalgia and wonderment with Xavi’s arrival. He has reignited the dying hopes of the Barca faithful, who are now expecting great things from one of the greatest midfielders of all time.
