The hosts deservedly opened the scoring after debutant Will Boyle headed home a floating cross at the back post eight minutes into the match. Ollie Palmer doubled Wrexham’s lead in the 20th minute with a volley smashing into Walsall’s net. The Walsall side did get one back soon after going two down, but it wasn’t enough.

It was a memorable night for Boyle, who made the move to Wrexham AFC from Huddersfield Town in the summer. The 27-year-old center-back was delighted to get off the mark on his debut, and he paid tribute to the victory and expressed his delight on social media.
