Yesterday marked a historic day in NWSL history. Angel City FC made the headlines after buying the youngest-ever player in the draft. The first name to be called out for the evening was Alyssa Thompson. Thompson made the headlines after registering for the draft. The reason is that the American striker is just 18 years old. But the soccer star has already achieved a lot more than other players of the same age.

Angel City FC got hold of Alyssa Thompson because they had the right to the No.1 pick. The LA-based soccer club couldn’t hide their excitement after buying Thompson. Fans from all over the world were overjoyed after hearing the news. Angel City FC co-founder, Alexis Ohanian also could not contain his emotions. Angel City posted a picture of Alyssa Thompson to announce her arrival.

Ohanian immediately commented, “LFG Welcome @alyssthomp”. Angel City FC’s Twitter almost broke after they announced the new signing. And rightly so, Alyssa Thompson is the youngest ever player to get picked in an NWSL draft. Thompson also made her debut for the USWNT at the age of just 17.

Natalie Portman once said that the people in the US just need a ‘minor cultural shift’. Portman figured that America already had great upcoming soccer talent. However, these youngsters never had a proper platform to showcase their skills to the rest of the world.
