Ryan Reynolds has done a terrific job at Wrexham. The Deadpool star has taken the Welsh club to new heights of success. He recently led the side to an emphatic promotion to the Football League. After seeing such immense success with the Red Dragons, Reynolds is keen to dip his toes into another sports franchise. The actor is eyeing the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.

It has been a few months since several aristocrats have been fighting to buy the Canada-based team, with Reynolds being one of them. One of the interested parties also includes WWE superstar Dwayne Johnson. More than a dozen bids were presented to the NHL for buying the team, with only six bidders remaining now.

However, it seems there has been a significant update as Reynolds is set to make a historic bid for the Senators.

Ryan Reynolds set to make $1 Billion bid for Ottawa Senators

The price of the Senators was set at around $800 million. But according to certain reports, the highest bid had reached $925 million. However, that mark is also set to be crossed. According to the Ottawa Sun, Reynolds is set to bid $1 billion with the Remington Group. The group is headlined by Reynolds and real estate magnate, Christopher Bratty.

It is also being said that Reynolds and Bratty want to close the deal as soon as possible. Moreover, their proposal includes building a new arena for the Senators. They will also be financing the deal with Galatioto Sports Partners and the Melnyk family, who also own the team and the NHL.

Earlier, a deadline of May 15 was given to all interested buyers to submit their best offer. Reynolds and the Remington group acted quickly and submitted their sweet proposal. This comes just days after he doubled his net worth by sanctioning a billion-dollar sale of his mobile company.

Either way, it seems Reynolds is desperate to get his hands on the ownership and lead the Senators to glory, just like he did at Wrexham. In fact, his optimism garnered him huge praise from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

The $1 billion sounds alarming for the Rock, who is also eager to buy the team. However, his interest is rather outshone by Reynolds. The NHL Commissioner hailed his optimism to complete the deal. “Ryan believed it was important to connect with a bidder that he believed would be a good match for him. I respect his view of the process. He wants to take it from beginning to end,” he said.

Reynolds, however, still faces stiff competition from Johnson, who is also desperate to buy the team. The WWE star has partnered with Los-Angeles based entrepreneur Neko Sparks. Both Deadpool and the Rock have big guns on their side, but who gets his hands on the team is the real question.
