USWNT superstars such as Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe are all set to shine in another FIFA Women’s World Cup which will kick off in days. While Rapinoe announced that the tournament will be her last, Morgan recently revealed she has not contemplated retirement yet. Ahead of the tournament, while speaking about motherhood and sports career, she recognized the endeavors of fellow athletes and mothers, Serena Williams and Allyson Felix.

The two-time World Champion dived deeper into her family life and motherhood. Being a superstar athlete and a mother at the same time is no walk in the park. But Morgan is successfully donning both hats. And she talked about it while acclaiming her fellow-super moms in sports.

Alex Morgan and former MLS star Servando Carrasco welcomed their daughter, Charlie Carrasco, in 2020. The three-year-old could now be seen enjoying an outing with her mother and other USWNT stars. Furthermore, the little girl also gets to kick the ball and run alongside her mother on the field. Yes, Alex Morgan is a soccer superstar and a ‘super-cool’ mother at the same time. However, things were not the same for Morgan’s predecessors. They had to choose between either of the two; career or family.

Thanks to stars like Alex Morgan, women athletes are now getting the support to manage their careers and familial obligations at the same time. “Myself and so many other female athletes and moms now have fought so hard for support as moms and continuing our job as a professional athlete. Serena Williams and Allyson Felix are two who have continued to fight for women to stay in the game as well as expand their family,” Alex Morgan told goal.com in a recent interview.

Alex Morgan also held her predecessors like Christie Rampone in high regard. As Morgan puts it, the likes of Rampone have been doing what she has been doing as a mother and an athlete at a time when the support was too little.

The mothers that compete at the highest level on big stages

The likes of Alex Morgan, Serena Williams, and Allyson Felix have not only chosen both career and motherhood at the same time but are also setting a great example for fellow women athletes. Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed their daughter Alexis Olympia in 2017. Then Williams was an active player whose life revolved around the Tennis court and numerous endorsement campaigns. Williams took her talents to the tennis court in 2022, while being a great mother to her daughter, Alexis Olympia.

Meanwhile, Allyson Felix encountered near-death experiences during labor. Thankfully, she and her daughter Camryn came through. A year after giving birth, Felix returned to the track in 2019. Alex Morgan became a mother shortly after her second World Cup win in 2019. Now, she is gearing up for her third straight title, with a three-year-old daughter by her side. But as Morgan pointed out in her interview, things will be a bit easier for the mother and daughter, as courtesy of fellow USWNT teammates and staff,  “who thrive in the role as de-facto aunts.”
